Have you ever tried Conversation Cubes? A life-saving material when you don’t have enough time for lesson planning.
They are multi-coloured cubes with different conversation starters printed on each side. They can be used to spark conversation among students or to play a get-to-know-you game while having fun.
Have a look at these activities I tried ⬇️
💡 Try these 6 simple and fun ideas to teach English with conversation cubes:
1️⃣ Ice breaker:
have a group of students or the whole class sit in a circle. Pass out the cubes to six different students. Have one of the students roll the cube, read the side that faces up, and share the answer. The student should pass the cube on and another student with a cube should roll. Continue until everyone has had a turn.
2️⃣ Conversation starter:
split the class into six groups and give each group a cube. Have one person in the group roll the cube and answer. The rest of the group should carry on the conversation by asking more questions or providing answers. Give the groups 1 minute for each roll.
3️⃣ Guess who?:
have everyone take three small sheets of paper and a pencil. Roll three cubes and have everyone write down their answers to the questions without showing them to anyone. Fold the papers in half and put them in three piles, one for each question. Start with the first question and have someone read one of the answers. Everyone then tries to guess whose answer it was. Put the paper back, pick another question, and continue. Do this until all three questions and answers have been completed.
4️⃣ Q&A:
children stand up, one at a time, introduce themselves, and ask, “What would you like to know about me?”. Everyone takes turns rolling a cube and asking the question on top. The child at the front should answer 5 questions before another child stands up to switch with them.
5️⃣ Nonverbal communication:
each child rolls a cube and answers the question without using any words. Students can make faces, gestures, or move around as much as they want. See if the other children can figure out what they are trying to communicate.
6️⃣ Favourite colour roll:
have each child choose their favorite colour of cube, and roll it. Have them answer every question on the cube in any order they want. Then, have them explain why the colour is their favourite.
